APUSH

We received and went over the directives today, stressing the importance of making an honest effort in class and doing the required reading.  Students earned points for marking the “First Americans” article and for their three questions.  We shared our questions with partners and then had a short class discussion–the central theme in both classes seemed to be “why does it matter who was here first?”

Due on block day: “The Great Disease Exchange” and “The Great Food Exchange.”  Students should mark the text and construct three open-ended questions for each.

US History

The class has been divided into groups by birthday, roughly, and were placed in “the State of Nature.”  After a plane carrying the groups across the Pacific crashed, only the students were left to forge a new society.  Students were given paper, tape, and glue to construct shelter for the coming days in their new locale.  We discussed whether everyone partcipated in the activity, who arose as a leader (if anyone) and why students constructed their specific type of shelter.
